Time is arguably the most priceless commodity available to man. Whosoever controls time, controls the world. Sadly, the measure of time available to man according to our clock is limited. What we have is just 24 hours daily. Most times, it never really enough to satisfy our daily schedules. But wouldn’t it be great to get more than 24 hours in your daily hourglass? I bet it would be.
Literally, it’s not possible to stop time, except in sci-fi movies. But there are life hacks that will help you accomplish tasks worth 36 hours or more within the limited time of 24 hours. Yea, that’s right. You can get more from your normal 24 hours than you could have ever imagined.
Time management as a concept is concerned with making productive use of your time. These simple timeless hacks will definitely make your 24 hours more productive than it had ever been.
1. Start Early
The earlier you start your day, the more productive time you have at the tip of your hands to play with. If you’re used to waking up by 7:40am daily, try to wake up by 6:00am or 6:30pm.
Come on, you don’t need to remind yourself how difficult it will be. Doing that will only make it an impossible task. Your mind is tailored to accept whatever you believe. So, if you believe you can’t do it, then you won’t do.
But if you believe it, you’ll be able to start your day well.
2. Plan Your Day
If you don’t have a plan for your day, anything can actually steal your precious hours. Meticulously take some minutes to plan everything you want to achieve for the day and be disciplined enough to follow them through.
Don’t allow someone else’s scattered time schedule to infringe on your beautiful daily plans. Nonetheless, give a little room for tolerance to unforeseen circumstances.
3. Cut Down On Breaks
Remember that our goal is to make utmost productivity from the limited 24hours. Always have that at the back of your mind.
Suppose you’re working on a million dollar proposal which you need to present in the next couple of hours, would you lavish one hour of your precious time on breaks? My guess is no.
A lot of people are not productive with their breaks. After taking lunch, they will while away the remaining time having chit-chats and playing Candy Crush. As good as relaxation may be, don’t forget that time is volatile. When you lose it, you can barely recover it.
If your break is one hour, you can use 30 minutes for that purpose and save the remaining 30 minutes for something productive. Don’t worry, you won’t break down.
4. Dump That Task
Not all task are worth your attention. Irrespective of the plans you made for your day, it’s almost inevitable for other things to call for your attention. That was why I earlier stated that you should give a reasonable level of tolerance for such tasks.
However, the truth is that, not all tasks are worth your attention. Some tasks are so silly and unproductive. You probably must have seen such tasks that is so time-consuming but eventually amounted to nothing significant. Effective task management is very important.
When you’re presented with such tasks, dump it. It will only successfully steal your precious hours.
5. Delegate It
Now, this is the killing tip. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone take care of part or the entire tasks you have for today while you use the free hours tomorrow’s tasks?
This is the best way of getting more than 24 hours daily. You must not do everything yourself. Delegate some of the plans you mapped out for today to someone else to do. Perhaps, that will save you a couple of hours. Pull some of tomorrow’s tasks down to today. Do them with the free hours.
At the end of the day you’ll see that you have more free time to invest in tomorrow. Repeat this step daily and you’ll be stunned at how productive you had been at the end of the month.
6. End Late
Finally, don’t be quick to tidy up your day. If your official work time ends by 5:00pm, don’t always be quick to rush home. Try and remain for 30 more minutes to do some extra work.
Success is a choice. Productivity is also a choice. Make the right choice today by using your precious hours judiciously. Always remember that time lost cannot be regained.
